WHY?- DEBRIEF:
I spend some time last night to do the final sketches of my friends' portraits to be scratched, but i got distracted along the way and told myself to scratch it when i wake up today.
We were supposed to meet at 12pm, but since Wanyi wanted to stay home for lunch, me, who was all geared up for school, had to postpone plans. I spent time while waiting for time to pass refining the portraits. Stobbit's face is impossible.
I got to school a little after 2.30pm. Having seen one of the guards, i went to the lockers to get books to return to the library. MEt with Wanyi and to our dismay, the library was closed yet again.
The workshop was messy, with more stuff in scattered places over the printmaking workshop
trying to poke Wan Yi...
failed many times...
photo booth's a mirror image,
tt's why!
AHAH! I FOUND THE ANSWER!
I started carving Rubbit's portrait on the acrylic only about 3-ish. Finished at about 4. I had to tape the face and areas in the background right behind the hair in order to sand the uncovered areas meant for the hair tones.
using masking tape for the
prevention of sandpaper's contact.
After the sand-ing, inspiration strucK!
The plate had instantly become a collagraph cum drypoint plate! I happily inked the plate and printed it and OMG the print was so intriguing! (yes yes... i know i am still an amateur... experts wouldn't wow at such things... i know, i know...) It seemed like lithography! Or a piece achieved by smearing charcoal over masking tape, which is incorporated in my favourite pieves. I was excited and decided to do a whole series of such prints with the new-found collograph method before i printed the finals for my gifts.
After inking and printing once,
this is what's left on my
collograph monoprint plate.
.
I would have regretted if I had not experimented(which took up half the time spent in the workshop), and now regret not being able to finish my final prints for all my friends. Rubbit's is finalised, so is Dobbit's. Stobbit's got no resemblance at all, the print looked too Chinese, probably because of her newly straightened hair but still that's no excuse... OH SIGH! and Ebbit's not carved yet( i fear it's gonna turn out bad!)
I had intended to do a drypoint of my relative's terrace house too as an xmas gift , that would end the day of printmaking. They had invited us over for xmas lunch and out of my 11 aunties and uncles living there, some gave me presents and red packets too! So as a token of appreciation, why not?
But as i was about to finish carving(frantically...) the guards walked in, waited, and told me to stop. IT WAS MY LAST PRINT AND THEY HAD TO JUST RUIN IT FOR ME!!!!!!!
i didn't wanna look at the guards... what for?! i held my head down as i packed. After all the trouble... i failed to complete the prints...
HAa I talk as if i am a printmaking major already, unable to finish printing for assessment gradings... HAHAAHAHAHH ... ok that's not funny.
Taking a break before heading home at the Rochor Soya Bean was refreshing. It was about 10-ish when we reached the place. It was great Wan Yi finally came in person, rather than me packing it back to school with her. What irked us most was the COCKROACHES!!!!!!!!! THOSE EVIL FLYING PESTS!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAA... imagine one creeping up your legs at full speed while slurping your soft and silky tau huay away!!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEKKKKKKKKKKSSSSSSSSSSssssssssSSsSSsssssssssssss!!!!!!
