Witch's Brew: Coleslaw with raisins in mayo/yoghurt

I love to cook but I seldom have the opportunity to do so.

After tasting yesternight's yummy healthy  Topeiyaki (egg over cabbage), i decided to recreate the thinly sliced noodle-like cabbage pieces and even bought a grater to do so.  However i failed and the cabbage and carrot slices turned out to look very much like coleslaw, therefore the impromptu change of plan.

Then SHE came home... and decided to have coleslaw for dinner. I was quite doubtful about it and you know how i am protective over my food.  but since the
re was a huge amount of servings for myself i decided to share.  And even went back down three times to the supermart to get more stuff so satiate THEIR appetite.

To my disappointment, no one ate the coleslaw i took pains to decorate to be served for dinner.
researching on first/ second/ third/ fourth/ world now.
YAYNESS ! The man called in the afternoon but i didn't answer coz i was skipping.  Luckily he sent me an sms to call him back!  However he was too busy to attend to me !!! ARGHHHH

My favourite cartoon(s)

i was asked by LittleGillian last night about my favourite cartoon. I had a hard time thinking of a title. I came up with Cow & Chicken, but i knew there was another i really enjoyed and discovered quite recently when i was watching kids central a year or two ago. Toons-something.

This afternoon i told her Toonsville. Then i googled it, and nothing was linked to it.

Just 10 mins ago as i was mopping the floor, it came to me- ! Sweet. I've only watched one or two episodes but i definitely love the whole concept of it all. It is a little abject of some sort. A reversal in fact. Instead of the dead being the abject, the normal person is the subject. Imagine a town filled with the living dead, and you're the outcast living with them just because u are human.

Haha and a google search confirmed it.

"Cow and Chicken"
Cow & Chicken

Meet Cow and Chicken, who live under a suburban roof with human parents, human friends and inhuman adventures. Fortunately for Chicken, who ruffles the feathers of many a human counterpart, Cow has an alter ego known as Supercow who wields her beefy frame whenever a situation calls for a bovine intervention. Created by David Feiss, Cow and Chicken received a 1998 Prime-Time Emmy

Toonsylvania

Toonsylvania is an animated television series, which ran from 1998 to 1999 on FOX's Saturday morning cartoon block (usually placed in a block called "The No Yell Motel" that contained scary kids shows such as Goosebumps and Eerie, Indiana) in its first season, then was moved to Tuesday afternoons from 1999 until its cancellation in 2000. It was produced in part by Steven Spielberg, following in the footsteps of his previous animated series, Tiny Toon Adventures and Animaniacs. Much like Animaniacs, the show had recurring cartoon series that appeared in each episode. Unlike Animaniacs, Toonsylvania didn't have a wide range of characters and almost every episode had the same cartoon segments.

A typical episode of Toonsylvania starts with a cartoon featuring the adventures of Dr. Vic Frankenstein (voiced by David Warner), his assistant Igor (voiced by Wayne Knight) who always sets out to prove that he's the real genius instead of Dr. Vic, and their dim-witted Frankenstein monster known as Phil (voiced by Brad Garrett). Before the second cartoon, there is an animated vignette where Igor is on the couch with Phil and tries to fix the TV remote, but every episode, there's a new problem with it (a running gag akin to the couch gags seen on The Simpsons). After that, there is a cartoon series called "Night of the Living Fred," about a family of zombies (sometimes, a parody of a B-horror movie would air instead of a "Night of the Living Fred" cartoon). After that is a short segment called "Igor's Science Minute," where Igor gives a science lesson (be it a musical piece or a spoken piece) that always ends in disaster. The final segment is "Melissa Screetch's Morbid Morals," where Phil the Frankenstein monster does something bad and Igor punishes him by reading a tale involving a bratty girl named Melissa Screetch (voiced by Nancy Cartwright of Simpsons fame) who doesn't heed the warnings of adults (usually given by her mother) and gets punished one way or the other for it.

Abjection: I love the Rabbit, the Rabbit loves me.

Checking out Gelitin's site now.

Rabbit seen from the sky (one person sleeping on its belly)copyright gelitin
Rabbit
The things one finds wandering in a landscape: familiar things and utterly unknown, like a flower one has never seen before, or, as Columbus discovered, an inexplicable continent;
and then, behind a hill, as if knitted by giant grandmothers, lies this vast rabbit, to make you feel as small as a daisy.
The toilet-paper-pink creature lies on its back: a rabbit-mountain like Gulliver in Lilliput. Happy you feel as you climb up along its ears, almost falling into its cavernous mouth, to the belly-summit and look out over the pink woolen landscape of the rabbitís body, a country dropped from the sky;
ears and limbs sneaking into the distance; from its side flowing heart, liver and
intestines.
Happily in love you step down the decaying corpse, through the wound, now small like a maggot, over woolen kidney and bowel.
Happy you leave like the larva that gets its wings from an innocent carcass at the roadside.
Such is the happiness which made this rabbit.
i love the rabbit the rabbit loves me.

Raja Ravi Varma

Watching CNA now and they're talking about this artist, Raja Ravi Varma.

Raja Ravi Varma
A Prince Among Painters and A Painter Among Princes

Raja Ravi Varma (1848-1906) was born in Kilimanoor Palace as the son of Umamba Thampuratti and Neelakandan Bhattathiripad. At the age of seven years he started drawing on the palace walls using charcoal. His uncle Raja Raja Varma noticed the talent of the child and gave preliminary lessons on painting. At the age of 14, Ayilyam Thirunal Maharaja took him to Travancore Palace and he was taught water painting by the palace painter Rama Swamy Naidu. After 3 years Theodor Jenson, a British painter taught him oil painting.
Most of his paintings are based on Hindu epic stories and characters. In 1873 he won the First Prize at the Madras Painting Exhibition. He became a world famous Indian painter after winning in 1873 Vienna Exhibition.

What is French Deconstruction?

form of philosophical and literary analysis, derived mainly from work begun in the 1960s by the French philosopher Jacques Derrida, that questions the fundamental conceptual distinctions, or “oppositions,” in Western philosophy through a close examination of the language and logic of philosophical and literary texts. In the 1970s the term was applied to work by Derrida, …

Planting but no planting time.

i want to plant potatoes and onions.  And orchids and cacti.

But i have no garden nor pots.

Kids at Trasnah... SUCK.

i can't help but sometimes not bother about the kids in my class.

They are all rude, spoilt, and horrible brats. They've got no skill, no respect, and know nothing about art.  They can't take instructions and cannot stay still.  I don't recall myself being like that at their age.  I was so afraid of doing wrong, and making mistakes.  The kids of today are bolder now.

Every so often i find the younger ones more able to handle- they just quietly sit there and do their work.  The disparity of rowdiness between kids from the different primary schools can clearly be seen.  The horrible ones love to be spoonfed and keep calling "Chee-Cher Chee-Cher i want green colour where is the green colour" when it is just right in front of them.  They just take everything for granted, as spoilt as they are, and just want you to do everything for them.  Help them pick up , clear up after their mess, help them finish painting, colouring... THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF COMING TO ART CLASS !

It really saddens me and makes me wanna tell them to stop coming so  that i can focus my attention on those who are keen and interested in learning.  Because they make so much noise, don't raise hands , demand so much from you, mess up the place, make me clean up... the poor little ones who really are interested always have to sit and blend into the background while waiting for me to settle the rest's problems before i attend to their keen needs.

The kids who come, mostly, are here just so they won't be left out.  They don't want to see their friends who are interested come for art lessons, and they, left out and staying put in another classroom while they paint.  So, these kids, they beg their parents to let them come, and their filthy rich parents of course agree, because they have the money to feed their kids, sometimes in excessive amounts.  And thus, they attend, and take everything for granted.  Whilst those who really want to attend, stay out, and stick by the window and look into the room that i teach in.  Sometimes i invite them in to participate in lessons that are hard to come by, like the gyotaku printing session 4 weeks ago.

But then again, Trasnah is a profit making company.  And i can't chase their CUSTOMERS away just like that.

Every now and then i question myself if i am a good teacher, and if i am doing my job at all, if it is me who is the problem, if i can teach at all... because the progress of my students is slow, or near zero.  Why am i not inspiring?

No Reply- yet.

waiting for replies in my mailbox.  Fairy told me her boss has already checked his mail last night, but no reply yet.  Gnausier hasn't replied too, and so hasn't the Wholf and Titty. argh... waiting waiting.

The T-Shirt Book

Decided to check this book out as it goes in conjunction with our association with Baybeats 2008 this coming august. It would be great to know the origins of the t-shirt, right?

The T-Shirt Book
The T-Shirt Book
by Charlotte Brunel

Book Description
This 400-page book features hundreds of colorful examples of the T-shirt at its legendary best, from its humble origins as an undergarment to its current star status as a classic piece of clothing worn by billions around the world. Originally designed as a piece of men's underwear, the T-shirt exploded in the 1960s and has since taken on a whole new meaning. The T-shirt shed its undergarment role and became the perfect forum for political and creative expression. The Tees have been worn by everyone - men and women, old and young - and through the silkscreen process have become an international, unisex medium for every possible type of message. From the brooding image of Marlon Brando in A Streetcar Named Desire to the revolutionary call of Che Guevara, this book chronicles the myriad uses and images of the T-shirt. With playful photographs and engaging text, The T-Shirt Book mirrors our social history as it traces the evolution of the shirt from 1960s tie-dye to Madonna mania, and beyond.

Gothic & Lolita

i was walking past the shelf with fashion books on it and this book caught my eye.

Gothic Lolita
Foreword by Katsuhiko Ishikawa
Photography by Masayuki Yoshinaga

The evolution of Japan's Gothic & Lolita movement has been unique. Although its origins can be sen in the English New Wave movement of the 1980s ( a trend made famous by the 'Batcave', an English Gothic club, the Japanese scene has acquired an originality and popularity all of its own, and is fundamentally different from its Western counterparts. The social and cultural history of Japan is very different from that of the West, which has allowed the country's teenagers to co-opt the codes of Western Gothic counter-culture and create a new and specifically Japanese Gothic & Lolita style.

The tern 'Gothic' first became part of Japaneses fashion terminology in the late 1990s. The main impetus for its appearance was a succession of highly popular bands of a Japan-specific rock culture visual kei or 'visual rock bands' (characterized by New Romantic-style make-up and elaborate costumes, but accompanied by Japanese pop music0. The enthusiastic supporters of these 'visual' bands started to copy their flamboyant make-up and fashions. Before long, the fans took to gathering in the streets and clubs at weekends. Those who dressed all in black or wore occult-influenced styles became known as Goths and those who dressed in girlish outfits and draped themselves with frills and ribbons were called Lolitas.

By the end of the 1990s, the Gothic & Lolita phenomenon became a fashion genre nt only associated with rock music but also with film, animation and computer games. Like many of the successful visual rock bands that appeared before them, individuals started up their own Gothic & Lolita fashion labels to cater for the new fashion. The majority of these new brands were based in Osaka, Japan's second city, and only later spread to the rest of the country. It is often said in JApan that most innovative culture is first seen in the west( Osaka, Kobe and Kyoto) before being acknowledged by the general public in Tokyo. The Gothic & Lolita movement was no exception, although today it has become a country-wide phenomenon...........

It's a scam. There are quite a few fraud websites that have it mentioned. Here are a few:

""Fondazione Di Vittorio" (website: http://www.fondazionedivittorio.it/ ) is a foundation in Italy whose name is abused for a scam by a Nigerian gang."

http://www.consumerfraudreporting.org/bizscam_ECOWAS.php

Scam Money Transfers - Fake Grants

Example - ECOWAS - Foundazion di Vittorio

Here's a variation on the basic scam money transfer email.  The Foundazion di Vittorio supposedly supported by "ECOWAS" wants to just GIVE you money, as long as you use a part of help to develop the environment.

If it isn't obvious, we'll say it for you: this is a complete scam and fraud.  The Foundazion di Vittorio apparently does exist, but the email and the grant are all nonsense. If you believe that there are organizations randomly handing out money like this, then you probably still believe in the tooth fairy.

If you need tangible proof, ask yourself this:  why would an organization with a website

( www.fondazionedivittorio.com  ) ask you to reply to a free yahoo email address ( giovani_foundationofficer02@yahoo.it ) (which ANYONE could get)?

And if you were crazy enough to write back to them, click here to see the response they will send.

and so, ho ho ho!  I bimbotically fell for it for 3 seconds.  there goes my hopes of getting a grant of a million- washed by the rain, down the wistful1 drain!

i am currently playing this game at this site.  i got distracted, yes i did.

the purpose is to help end hunger as the UN Food Program donates 20 grains of rice for every word i get correct.

How does playing the vocabulary game at FreeRice help me?

Learning new vocabulary has tremendous benefits. It can help you:

  • Formulate your ideas better
  • Write better papers, emails and business letters
  • Speak more precisely and persuasively
  • Comprehend more of what you read
  • Read faster because you comprehend better
  • Get better grades in high school, college and graduate school
  • Score higher on tests like the SAT, GRE, LSAT and GMAT
  • Perform better at job interviews and conferences
  • Sell yourself, your services, and your products better
  • Be more effective and successful at your job

After you have done FreeRice for a couple of days, you may notice an odd phenomenon. Words that you have never consciously used before will begin to pop into your head while you are speaking or writing. You will feel yourself using and knowing more words.

From this game i have learnt :

.
i found this artist's photography very amusing and akin to what i love to do- dress up and photograph.  Maybe i should give myself a project to dress up every other day and photograph myself and then collate it with artist reference to tomoko sawada, Amelie ...

She's got another book entitled School Days, in which she also superimposes her face in different looks in graduation photographs.
